Zoombezi Bay

Check out the new water park with us…we’ll save you some money! Wednesday, June 18 we’ll be heading over to Zoombezi Bay (next to the zoo) and taking the plunge. Cost is $20 (pay at the gate, so bring cash) and whatever you spend for meals. We’ll leave at 9:45a (don’t get left behind) and be back at 8:30p.

Velocity during VBS

Thanks to all the students (and parents…you are the ones reading this) who are helping out with VBS this year. It is incredible to see so many of you helping out. In fact, without Velocity students VBS couldn’t happen.

But we aren’t totally taking the week off from activity ourselves…

GRUB GRAB – Wednesday right after the morning VBS session we’ll be heading over to Chick-Fil-A on Hilliard Rome Rd in front of Target for lunch. Send your student with some cash for lunch, we’ll give them a a ride to CFA and all you’ll need to do is pick them up from CFA when they are done eating. (Sure you can come to…everyone likes Chick-Fil-A!)

Pool Party – Friday right after the morning VBS session we’ll be heading to the Lalonde’s home for a pool party. All the students who helped out with VBS are invited to come! We’ll give them a ride to and from their house back to Northwest. All they’ll need is a swim suit, towel and a SACK LUNCH.

Velocity Family Picnic…June 4

Sure it is raining, but we have the largest pavilion at Homstead! We’ll all stay somewhat dry.

We might not have all the activities we planned, but we will still EAT and hang out together. In fact, I can tell stories about how the rain actually made our events better in the past…we improvise all the time in student ministry.

So, we’ll see you tonight at 6p and eat at 6:30p.

We’re still supplying the hotdogs and you’re bringing a dish to share with friends and drinks for your family.

We’ll see you tonight or I’ll be eating hotdogs ONLY for the rest of the year!

Last REGULAR Wednesday night of the School Year

Tomorrow night marks our last regular Wednesday night (and even at that, it’s not real regular). We have both MS and HS students meeting at the same time, 7:00p. Make sure your student doesn’t miss this night. We have a bigger night than usual planned so we are combining our groups. We will be done around 8:30p.

Don’t forget next Wednesday night is the Velocity Family Picnic at Homestead Park.

Also, small groups will be meeting this Sunday! You can check website for locations.

This Week at the Movies

Friday night we will be at Regal Cinema (Georgesville) once again at 7:30p for our next installment, Prince Caspian, from the Chronicles of Narnia series. You can pre-purchase tickets on Wednesday nights at the snack shack for $7 or get your ticket the night of. Even if you buy your ticket through us arrive for the show by 7:05p to get a seat (it is opening night and this movie is going to sell out).

This movie is a great illustration of how faith has no age limit, that our faith in God helps us to make a difference NOW in the world we live in. Along with the story-line of Prince Caspian we’ll be looking at other young people of faith in the Bible that were Pacesetters in the world. We’ll even be sharing a story of how a couple of students (twins no less) are making a difference in our world today (check out their story at www.therebelution.com).

Small Groups…June 1, 8, 15, 22 (6th graders move up into MS and 8th graders move into HS) Check for locations as the time gets closer (velocitystudents.com) because some are definitely changing.

Velocity Family Picnic…June 4. All students and their families are invited. We should have hundreds there. We’ll be at Homestead park in their biggest pavilion down by the pond. Velocity will supply the hotdogs/buns/condiments and you bring a side to share and drinks for your family…and some lawn chairs too. Great time to meet and talk with other families!

Vacation Bible School…June 9-13. Hopefully your student has already signed up to help, they’re needed and I know Matt couldn’t do VBS without the help of Velocity. So, sign up your kid now.

Zoombezi Bay…June 18. It’s new and we’re going to take the plunge! The zoo has spent tons of money on this attraction and I can’t wait to check this place out. Cost will be $20. We’ll leave from NW at 9:45a and be back around 8:30p. Sure, bring some extra cash for meals…and yes your admission gets you into the zoo too (though you need appropriate attire for walking around in the zoo…no swimsuits).

Student Leadership University…June 22-27 in Orlando, FL. We might have room for 1 guy and 1 girl…if anyone is interested you can contact me.

Yeah, we’re not taking off for the summer, changing our schedule, but not slowing down at all!

This Week at the Movies

Join us this Friday night at Regal Cinemas at Georgesville for the 7:30p showing of Speed Racer. Last night we used this movie to talk about temptation. I shared seven deceptions that Satan uses concerning temptation (with the help of the other pastors on staff-through videos) and countered those with God’s truth. Hopefully as we watch the movie together, students will once again think about the message from last night.

Next Week: The Chronicles of Narnia, Prince Caspian.

Velocity at the Movies 2008

The article title is our new series on Wednesday nights. We are going to be using some current (yet to be released) movies on Wednesday night to illustrate God’s Word.

First up is Iron Man and we will be addressing the topic of pride. But not only will we be referring to Iron Man in the message, we are going to go see it. We’ll be going to see it at Regal Cinemas: Georgesville Square 16 this Friday at 7:30p. Students can prepay for their tickets on Wednesday nights for $7. Students will be dropped off/picked up at the theatre

…and yes, parents are welcome to view the picture with us (I’m encouraging it). If you don’t prepay you obviously can still attend, but remember this is opening night and tickets will go fast…so will the good seats, so arrive early. Get directions: www.regmovies.com

Gladiator Allnighter

Now that I’ve gotten some sleep, let me say that this year’s allnighter was another incredible event. Lives were certainly changed for eternity! Our allnighters seem run without any problems. With so many students in attendance you would think there would be some issues…but there wasn’t a one. What we did have was a great time, a lot of new faces and of course the message of Christ presented. Thanks for letting your student(s) be a part.

Making a Difference (Take Two)

Wow! Now that I’ve seen and heard what our groups have done, I am blown away. If your student is a part of small groups, talk to them about their experience. I can assure you that what they have done truly has a made a difference in the lives of someone(s). They’ve reached out to people we knew, people we’ve never met and even across the world! They did all this with just $20, an idea and some hard work.

How about trying this out with your family? Take $20 (less than what we spend at Arby’s), come up with an idea, put in some work…and then make a difference in someone’s life!
